Broadway & 52nd is the second album by jazz-rap group Us3 and has a more dark, conscious mood to it than their first album. On the album, the group continued mixing live musicians with samples and hip hop lyrics. While the album was not as well received as the debut album Hand on the Torch, it represented a more mature approach to jazz rap. After the huge success of their first album, the president of Blue Note records allowed the trio to dig deep into Blue Note's vault and do whatever they wanted to. Us3 - Broadway & 52nd 1997. Broadway & 52nd takes it to the next level and kicks it up a few notches. L album d acid jazz par excellence, pour US3 reste un groupe de référence en la matié morceaux bien connus, mais un album qui ne vieillit pas. Read more. 2 people found this helpful. Broadway & 52nd continues the breakthrough formula achieved by Us3 on Hand on the Torch of mixing classic jazz samples from the Blue Note library with hip-hop. As before, producer Geoff Wilkinson joined by Jim Hawkins, replacing Mel Simpson augments the samples with live performances from various soloists. But does any of it work especially well That answer, unfortunately, is far from an enthusiastic yes. But as the sum of its parts, Broadway & 52nd is well-worth a listen
