Projections of Loss (EP)
by Tristan Louth-Robins
Projections of Loss is an EP by South Australian sound artist and composer Tristan Louth-Robins with artwork by his partner, artist Lauren Playfair.
Projections of Loss was recorded over a period of six months around Australia in 2009 and 2010 in hotel rooms, in transit and at home using a variety of source materials and sonic processes to realise the four compositions that comprise this EP. Slow moving harmonic textures and drones dissolve into residues; ambient disquiet erupts; natural ephemera is evoked and the hiss of tape and drawbars fill the room. Conceptual themes of loss, memory and nostalgia unite the compositions with titles alluding to locations and scenarios which are at once literal, distorted and imaginary.
Though Projections of Loss could be regarded as Louth-Robins' most personal (and romantic) work to date, it is the intention of the artist not to suggest too much with these compositions and instead allow the listener to draw their own interpretations and meanings from the compositions and the encompassing conceptual themes of the release.
