Album

Deus Ex Machina is the debut album of composer Paul Schütze, released in 1989 through Extreme Records. All music is composed by Paul Schütze. John Baldwin illustrations. Steve Burgess instruments, engineering. Paul Schütze instruments, production, art direction. Virginia Trioli vocals. Gareth Vanderhope instruments. Melissa Webb art direction. Although Schütze had already made a name for himself in his native Australia as a member of the group Laughing Hands, and was a successful film composer, this exhibition soundtrack is his first solo release. And all things considered, it's a remarkably mature and sophisticated piece of work, which uses a variety of sampled sounds and voices within musical contexts as a means of exploring psychological expectations and mental space.
